Presentations and Results from the Southern Sierra Nevada Change Adaptation Workshop
February 20-22, 2013 - Visalia, CA
The workshop brought together
nearly 170 individuals from more than 60 organizations to identify shared
conservation goals and to explore regional scale strategies to conserve Southern Sierra Nevada natural resources in the face of rapid change and an uncertain
future.

Public land managers and partners in the Southern Sierra Nevada Region are keenly aware that valued resources are at risk. Each entity has a compelling need to develop action plans that enable them to effectively respond to unprecedented and rapidly changing climatic, biogeophysical, and socio-economic conditions. This workshop was an opportunity to collectively move forward in our change adaptation capabilities using the latest information and tools.
Participants addressed the following question: Given uncertain and rapidly changing conditions in the 21st century, how do we best achieve our shared conservation goals for the Southern Sierra Nevada Region? To do this, we:
(1) Identified shared and unique
values to be conserved,
(2) Reviewed resource condition and vulnerability assessments ,
(3) Explored new response strategies and where they might be used, and
(4) Assessed constraints and opportunities.
