California Fish Passage Assessment Database (PAD)

The Passage Assessment Database (PAD) is an ongoing map-based inventory of known and potential barriers to anadromous fish in California, compiled and maintained through a cooperative interagency agreement. The PAD was developed in 2002 to provide a common framework for the collection, management and analysis of known and potential barriers to fish passage in California streams. It is intended to capture a set of basic information about each known and potential barrier to aid in inventorying and assessing fish passage issues on a statewide scale. The set of data fields included in the PAD were chosen to meet the needs of California Fish Passage Forum members (http://www.cafishpassageforum.org/). PAD provides a medium to review barriers across diverse types and jurisdictions, and to evaluate habitat fragmentation in the context of whole watersheds. The mapping capability and ease of data retrieval provides restoration practitioners with an easy-to-use platform to identify and develop fish passage improvement projects that benefit anadromous habitat and reduce stream fragmentation.
